Brief Description:  Fuel Tank Leak Test

Test day today. Safety wired two balloons to the two outlets on the end rib. When I inflated them using the air compressor and real slow airflow, you could hear metal expanding a little inside somewhere and all of a sudden the balloon quickly inflated. I stopped the airflow as soon as I saw the balloon stetching past the original size. The larger 3/8 fuel outlet line inflated the orange balloon before the 1/4 inch fuel vent line inflated the blue balloon, although the blue balloon did expand from flacid to straight. I placed my locked tape measure upright just snugged up to the end of the orange balloon to create a measurement point. If the balloon stays touching the tape I will be happy. I duct taped the fuel fill opening just in case the sealing ring inside is not airtight. If everything else succeeds, I will remove the duct tape and then watch further. I really hope it passes. Really hope it passes.... Really....
Well, its been 6 hours and there was a minor problem. In about 30 minutes the balloon moved 1/2 inch away from the measuring tape. Heart sank and I put some soap bubbles on the balloon connections. Yeah.... they were leaking. I gave the safety wire another couple twists and pushed on the base of the balloon and the leak seemed to stop. Moved the tape to the new balloon location and went away. Recorded temperatures for the last 7 hours. 91,91,91,91,90,90. Balloon has not moved and actually looks like its pushing lightly on the tape. Woohoo......
