To prime the canopy, I needed to determine how wide the painted trim would be around the edge. I had two options. One, I could make the reveal consistent around the perimeter of the canopy. Two, I could make the reveal symetric from side to side and paint the smallest reveal possible.
I decided to go with a consistent reveal around the entire canopy. In my case, that was 5 inches. I tapes off the line and scuffed the plexiglass with 120 grit sandpaper. I'll use adhesion promoter before spraying the primer.
Tip: You will notice two different colors of tape used to establish the prime line. The blue came from the aviation department at Lowes. The yellow is 3M from the paint store. The 3M is much higher qualit than the blue tape. Overnight, the blue pulled away from the canopy. I'll never buy cheap painter's tape again.
