I'm documenting this Lightning build for a few reasons. First, this is a dream come true and I want to share it with friends and family that can't pop over to have a look. Second, to prove to my neighbor's friends that they really do have a neighbor that is building an aipplane under his deck (an awesome, manly space which was purpose build for cool activities like this). Finally because there have been several upgrades to the kit which are not captured in the builders manual. I've found other builder sites that have been a big help to me when trying to figure out just what to do.
Nick, the Lightning designer, continues to be very patient as he answers numerous questions from a first time airplane builder. Just last night he responded to a text of mine at 7:30 pm. A couple of weeks ago, he responded to a text while he was at the zoo with his kids. I couldn't ask for better factory support. I hope that this site saves him a few questions from future Lightning builders.
I started this build in late March, 2017 while still working. I retired in July, 2017, so progress was slow up to then. The last thing I wanted to do was spend building time posting to an airplane building blog. It's now September, 2017 and I'm just starting this blog. Early build entries may lack pictures or details, but I'll try do do better moving forward.
My friend Dave and I met Nick, the designer, in Morgantown, KY to pick up the kit. Very excited!!! Let the adventure begin!
