Brief Description:  Install Seat pans - 1

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

I couldn't figure out how to get the seat bottoms to fit on the rails and floor, so I called Nick to see what they do. The issue I discussed was that the seat bottom hit the sparbox tension rod. He said if that happens, 'just cut it out of the seat bottom. They are way overbuilt anyway and with padding in the seat cussion, you'll never notice the relief cut.'

What I later learned when he sent pictures of their finished seat bottom is that they aggressively trim the aft curve of the seat bottom. Once that is done, the bottom slides back and the rod clearance is not an issue.

Another issue is that one of my seat bottoms was not symetrical. One side is deeper than the other. Since the floor of the fuselage is a bit deeper in the center, I needed to swap seat pans. Of course I would cut the relief cut before noticing this. So, bith of my seat panse have relief cuts on both sides for clearance that is not an issue after removing the aft edge of the pan. Once again, knowing this before cutting would have been nice. As I post pics, these issues will be apparent and the correct process will also become obvious.

If you're building a Lightning, I'd suggest you look over the next few posts to see how to do the seat pans and not repeat my mistakes.

See how the pan doesn't sit level? Look at the lines on the seatback.
