Brief Description:  Trouble shooting non first start

The engine would not turn over. Trouble shooting revealed that the hot terminal on the starter was grounded to the case. We know this because, after removing the starter, a multimeter showed continuit between the hot post and the case. I called Hartzel (Skytech) and they said send it in and purchase another starter against the return authorization. Once they get the fautly starter in and test it, they would credit me the purchase price and shipping.

I received the new starter in a couple of days and Hartzel denied the warranty claim saying the starter tested fine on their bench. I called them to protest. I explained again what happened and he said it checked out ok, but would look into it. He later called back and said their testing equipment was faulty and that the hot bolt was, in fact, grounded to the case. I received a credit for the purchase price, but was not reimbursed for shipping (either way). I'm not happy about this because I spent $40 returning a faulty starter. Shame on you Hartzell. Your quality control problem should not cost your customer money to resolve your problem.

Throughout this process, my EarthX battery got fried. EarthX replaced the battery and paid for shipping both ways. That's how its supposed to be done. Great customer service EarthX!

Unfortunately, this all means that first start will happen next week.
