The main gear is secured with a castle nut and a cotter pin. On the right side, the hole was in the perfect location. On the pilot side, the hole was actually outside of the castle nut and would not do the job. So, I could either drill a new hole or install a spacer. Because of the bolts holding the wheel boots on, drilling a new hole was risky, so I decided to go the spacer route.
Bottom line, I need new hole saws. I thought it would be quicker to make a shim from a piece of 2" aluminum angle than to drive to Home Depot and buy a big zink washer. I knew it would be lighter, which is always good. Anyway, even with lots of oil, cutting this spacer created a lot of smoke and heat on the drill press.
