Brief Description:  Fab Firewall - 1

Stainless Steel is very hard to cut without a brake. I used a metal cutting blade in the jig saw to make the initial cuts and then filed the edge to final shape. Note, the builder's manual shows the process for the Jabiru engine. I'm using a much larger powerplant (insert grunting noise here), so my firewall will be a bit different. Mine will have a recessed are in the center that will allow for the magnetos to be removed for service in the future. Nick supplied the dimensions of the knockout in a drawing as a suppliment to the manual. Thanks, Nick!

First, I test fit the motor mount to the sheet of SS. Then, I held it to the flange, marked the upper left hole, and drilled the hole. I mounted it to the flange with this one hole and match drilled the upper right hole and secured it with a temporary bolt. Once it was secure, I match drilled the remaining 2 holes and test fit the motor mount.

Once the sheet was mounted to the flange, I marked the edge with a sharpie, removed the SS, and cut the shape with a metal blade in a jig saw. I went through a couple of cheap blades and then filed to final shape.
