Brief Description:  Drill AOI holes and set wing sweep

There really is no need to start by noting the angle of the spar box top. That is not used to set the sweep of the wings. The important task here is that both wings have exactly the same angle. I made the jig that is described in section 11a. At first, the right wing was 0.1 degree off from the left wing.

So, we drilled both AOI holes in the left wing and the rear AOI hole in the right wing and inserted bolts in the holes to hold the wings in this position. Using a long screwdriver to move the right spar while pushing down on the front of the right wing, we were able to get an exact AOI match for both wings. We then drilled the forward AOI hole in the right wing and inserted a bolt through the final AOI hole to hole it in place while setting the sweep.

To set the sweep you make a mark 135 inches from the wing root on the wing. This point is just a few inches from the end of the wing. Now, measure from the top of the tail to these marks on the wings. The goal is that the measurements are the same. If not, add washers between the wing root and the hard points where the AOI holes are. My left wing measures 209 1/2. My right wing is 209 9/16 with only one washer up front. Well within tolerance. My plane should fly straight.
