Brief Description: Wing Flap Fabrication and Assembly
Image 1 shows me clecoing together the flap assemblies for match drilling of the Flap Skins to the Flap Ribs and Spar that make up the Flap Structure. Image 2 shows that when clecoed together there were definite gaps between the end of the Flap Interior Ribs and the bent-up flange of the Flap Bottom Skin. The manual says that one can fabricate shims to fill in any gaps but doesn't specify the maximum allowable gap before shims are required. I called Vans and talked to their Technical Support Desk who told me that my gaps (0.030 to 0.040) didn't really require shims but I decided to make some shims from 0.025 aluminum stock and I will get to that in a later log. Image 3 shows me match drilling the Flap Skins to the Flap Ribs.
