Today I designed, built and test fit the Mixi-X Magnetometer shelf. A few builders use the Mini-X and located in some fashion just forward of the bulkhead aft of the cargo bay bulkhead. While the shelf did not have to be located at the dead center of the fuselage, it did have to be parallel with the wing cord as if the aircraft was flying. Since the fuselage was already set to simulate level flight, I did not have to do anything special before making/fitting the shelf. I made a couple brackets to attach to the overhead skin stiffeners out of .025 aluminum. The cross ties are made out of 3/4 x 3/4 x .063 aluminum angle. I place one down so the D-sub could be installed from the rear. I put forward one up to keep it as "out of the way" as possible. When I finished the fit-up, I checked to make sure it was parallel with the wing cord. I alumipreped and alodined these parts as well as those made yesterday for the Garmin Magnetometer and the Garmin auto pilot pitch bracket. All will be primed tomorrow.
