I installed a little more insulation today in the firewall. I also installed the short S.C.A.T. in the tunnel for the front heat run. I then started on the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensors (EGT). Each if the cylinders will have an EGT sensor installed in its exhaust pipe. Because the EGTs are 3 1/2" long, I reinstalled the lower cowling to locate problematic areas where I can't install them. After finding the compass heading of each, I removed the lower cowling and worked to identify the distance from the head they could be installed. The instructions call for between 2 and 4 inches from the head, but they all had to be the same distance. I found interference in most areas, but 2 1/4" from the head was good for all sensors. I drilled each location with a #32 drill bit and then carefully reamed with a # 30. I trimmed each of the band clamps to better fit the pipe and deburred and polished the clamp so it looked original.
