Brief Description:  Engine Oil Screen Service

Today I removed the preservative oil from the engine by following the procedures outlined in FAA approved Lycoming SERVICE INSTRUCTION No.1472. While the oil was draining, I removed, cleaned, reinstalled and safety wired the oil screen located in the oil pan lower/center/aft. The right center oil drain plug was removed to drain the pan and discarded. In its place, I installed a SAF-AIR P5000 OIL DRAIN VALVE using the anti-seize supplied with the valve. This will allow me to drain the oil in the future without removing the plug. This unit is FAA and PMA approved. After installation, the drain valve was safety wired. Also during the oil removal procedure, the lower spark plugs were removed, cleaned and reinstalled (snug). They will be removed again before running the engine, re-cleaned, a new copper washer installed and final torqued.
