I squeezed the rivets securing the two horizontal cowling hinges and then removed the cowling from the fuselage. Before setting the hinge keeper in place, I sanded the inside surface giving the fiberglass a good place to bond. Once sanded and cleaned, I put the hinge pins back in and taped the hinge covers in place. I added an epoxy/flox/glass sphere mixture to the back of the keepers (which had three coatings of mold release on them. When this part got tacky to the touch, I mixed up more epoxy and placed four layers if BID glass in the rear of the hinge keepers and in the outside corners of the air inlet. When done, I wanted the forward outside air ramp area to overlap at the joint like the inside spinner area does. This will not only add strength, but keep air from coming in there.
