I plan to install a Hartzell constant speed propeller on the IO540 engine. The oil pressure used to control the pitch of the prop comes through the center of the crank. The IO540 has a plug installed at the factory and must be removed before installing the propeller. Bill, a fellow builder came by with a slide hammer and removed the plug. The plug, which was over 1/8 inch thick was drilled in the center almost all the way through. Then Bill used a punch the rest if the way so chips did not enter the oil galley. A screw was installed and connected to the slide hammer. The plug walked right out without any problems.
