Brief Description:  Forming wheel fairing

The builders group highly recommends MATCO brakes/wheels for the RV10. As I wait for my interior paint to be delivered, I looked at the instructions for installing these brakes and wheels. The one problem area is where MATCO states you need to "radially form" the underside of both fairing brackets allowing for clearance of the 90° brake fluid fitting. While this is a very minor interference, the bracket is .125 thick aircraft aluminum (meaning it will not want to bend). After several failed attempts to put a jog in the bracket, I decided to cut a relief groove in a piece of 1/4" steel plate (becoming my die) and run it out to Bills house where he has a 20 ton press. I also cut a piece of 1/2" bar stock in half to use as the mating surface. It took me hours to prep for this, and it took 15 seconds and the press to form it nicely. Once complete, I again scuffed up the area so I could alumiprep and alodine the area.
