Brief Description: Joining the empennage and aft mid section
Today I clecoed the empennage to the mid section for the first time. The adjustable horse I made worked well allowing me to install the empennage by myself. I was impressed how the aft mid-section aligned itself perfectly with the forward empennage...and the clecoes went right in. The Vans design confirms that you are doing things right when parts fall in to place so well. Their suggestion of drilling each hole and then adding the bolt before you drill the next really helps keep the tolerances tight too. I did notice there was a place on the belly of the empennage I need to prime before I attach it permanently to help prevent corrosion. I had done it earlier, but it needs to be about 1/4 inch wider. I will do that when I prime the lower bulkhead.
