Brief Description:  Prepping the Nose Gear

We have spent the good part of the last three days working on fitting the nose gear components to ensure proper fit and alignment. It has not been easy. We have several areas that need to be reworked on the gear frame itself (check out picture # 2. The circled items need to be welded and or ground flush).

We had this nose gear made for us at the same time we had our engine mount made. However, even though the engine mount is really nicely done, the nose gear welds (in our opinion) are opposite of where they should be. All of the welds are only on one side not both. So, we are going to have the welding completed and also have the interior area of the axle ground flush. It tends to splay the forks open. Not good. The other areas are open and will promote rust even after we have it powder coated, so the welding will close them.

All the other items have been fitted and everything else, looks good and fits great. We will have to ream out the races after powder coating and grease it all up upon assembly. It has been way too hot to work out there in the garage lately. It has been in the upper 90's and humidity has been exceptionally high with some nasty storms each afternoon. The Temps get up into the 100's by mid day in the garage. Time to insulate and get the AC set up so we can work.
