Brief Description:  Spar Stiffeners

Recieved our Spar Stiffeners this week. It was our opinion that since this design is based upon the Avid Flyer and the Kitfox we would install the Spar Stiffeners in our wings as well. Stace clains they are unncesarry, but when we look at the design our gut instinct was that we felt they were needed.

The Avid and KitFox originally used an 18” plywood web. After chatting back and forth on several of the group pages, we decided to go with a 30” Aluminum I Beam stiffener available from Just Aircraft. There kits use the same basic wing design and Spare tube. They use a 60” stiffener due to the larger wing and Gross Weight of the aircraft. We purchased 2 of the stiffeners from them and will be cutting them in half.

I spent about a half hour today making a jig to hold the stiffener and alow me to make a nice clean cut. We will be cutting them tomorrow since both of us have a rather large honey do list to knock out. Gotta keep em happy!

Tomorrow, we will be ready to cut them to length, cut the relief in each end, clean them up and prep for install next week.
