Brief Description:  Preparation - Left Forward Spar Removal

Spent over 3+ hours measuring and remeasuring and measuring again all the wing dimensions in preperation of removing and replacing the left forward spar. Since the spar was damaged beyond 18 inches of wing mounting attachment it has to replaced. Which means lots of work and preperation. After ensuring all the measurements were correct we made a pair of cradles to hold the wing spars eaxctly the correct distance of 30 inches apart. We spent almost an hour just checking and cross checking after each hole was drilled in the cradle. (The rear spar must be 1/2” higher than the forward spar at 1 1/2” from the end of the spar tip.) Then, after all the placement and drilling was completed, We cut each equal to the height of the spar and attached each to a base and then to the saw horses. Checked the the measurements again and they were right on.

With the wing securely supported, it was time to remove excess epoxy and carefully break the bonds from the rib and spar connections. It was easier than we thought. The original builder did not prep the spars by sanding for bonding. The replacement will be done right. Removed fittings and now ready to start putting her back together.
