Brief Description:  Knowing when your taking the wrong path

After several failed attempts to use SMD led's to make our position lights, I shoved everything aside and decided to research and find another alternative than trying to make them complicated. Simplicity is better. So, after searching for the better alternative, I found it.

Since the FAA has set minimums for lumen output and visibility I determined the simple approach would be best. I settled on a LED bayonet base SMD lamp used in the marine industry. The minimum Lumen output of 400 Lumens narrowed available off the shelf lamp choices to about 30. Most lamps are in the 200-300 lumen range. Fortunately, I was able to find a 430 lumen bayonet base 12v LED lamp rated at 30,000 hours. I ordered two sets. Now I will take some time to configure mounting each socket and lamp in a way that will make it easier to replace when necessary, but also give the correct viewing angle.
