Brief Description:

Began clean up of rear spar Doubler area on the Left wing and Drilled out the new doublers to match the holes from the original installation. The new doublers are 10% larger and allowed for 2 extra holes on the front spar. The rear spar, due to the layout of holes by the original builder, only allowed for 1 extra rivet. I am sure it will be that way for the Right Wing as well. Of course, none of the rivet holes were layed out straight. Additionally, The powder coating surface of the doublers nor the inside of the spars had been sanded for epoxy adehsion. When I drilled the rivets out and tapped them with a center punch the doublers fell out! So glad this is a total rebuild on these wings.

I also installed the remaining Drag Tube Gussett that is installed over the strut attach bracket. It had to be shapped to fit over the bracket in one area and still contact the spar in another.

This has not been a very productive week construction wise. We had to make a decission on installing spar stiffeners like in the Avid and Kitfox. We have decided to install them. So, now we have to decide either on the plywood or aluminum version. Once these are installed, we can permanently install the doublers, rehang the wings and lock in the remaining ribs, install the fuel tanks, build the ailerons and flaps and install the pulleys. We can then finish the wings and get them ready to cover. 80% done on the wings, 120% to go!
