Brief Description: Stringers & Front Spar re-inforcement.
During the last two days I finished fixing the stringers to the wing ribs then removed the front spar from the assembly ready for re-inforcing.
To re-inforce the front spar, I made up two plates from 0.040 thick 2024 T3 to lay inside the spar that run from just outboard from the Jury strut backing plate attachment point to just to the inboard side of the first lightening hole in the spar that is outboard from the strut attachment backing plate.
Because I had already riveted the strut attach backing plate to the spar, I first had to drill out the rivets holding this, then cut out the new re-inforcing plates, layed them in place and using the existing holes in the spar as the starting point, drilled & cleko'd the plates into place.
In the areas of 3 laminations, I drilled for 5/32 rivets, for the rest just the 1/8.
After losts of deburring, and etch priming, I then re-assembled all the parts ready for placing the solid rivets.
