Brief Description:  The damaged crates

After waiting 7 months, the Kit finally arrives in Brisbane.
7 weeks of that time the crates were in transit, sea freight.
True to form, the carriers and the wharf handling people had managed to damage the crates.

The roof of the large crate had been squashed down, resulting in a broken wind screen and numerous flattened trailing edges and bent components, and so the insurance dance begins!

Things can only get better from here on down the line.

Problem 1 is that the insurance cover is in the supplier's name, however they are not proactive in pursuing the insurer and this is left up to me, which will take another 6 months to resolve.

I start to learn that patience does not work, and that it is only after some emails to the insurer threatening some sort of legal redress that a settlement is achieved.

Recomendation: If you are not collecting the kit from the factory, ensure that the freight insurance is in your own name, and if possible, take it out yourself and do not leave it up to the freight company.

In hindsight, a number of smaller deliveries over an extended period may have been better.

Time spent unpacking and checking the kit inventory is not included in the assembly hours in the construction manual, but in reality are all part of the overall building time.

Class Inc. has done a good job of the inventory list, with only a few minor part numbers incorrectly marked or not corresponding to part numbers on the drawings, however there are a number of items that were not supplied which one would expect to be included in a kit worth over $40K.

These items may seem to be minor, but unless detailed pre purchase, one could be forgiven for thinking that they would be supplied. Items such as the fuel and brake line tubing & fittings, AN bolts used to attach the engine mount to the firewall and some some control rigging pulleys are examples.
