Brief Description:  Conversion

Today we started the conversion from a nose wheel RV6A to a taildragger RV6. We ordered the parts that we needed from Vans at a cost of $2335.33 which included shipping and taxes. The parts that we ordered were:
1. 6 Fuse Unique (tailwheel weld mount, 4 bulkheads, and hardware
2. 7 Dyna-1-0-360 (gear legs and engine mount)
3. 2 pieces of metal for the 611C
We started by drilling out the rivets on the aft deck(F614) with a #40 drill bit then switching to a #35 drill bit finishing off with a rubber hammer and a punch. Glen did this piece of critical work as we did not want to drill into the skin of the aircraft, just into the rivet enough that the rivet would collapse into it's self. Glen has done this many times and is very good at it. We also have to completely remove the F614 plate, once it was off we scotch brited and cleaned it and gave it another thin coat of primer.
Then we removed the rivets holding the single F612 in place so it could be replaced with two new F612s. We have to notch out the extra F612 so it will around the longerons. A farebit of playing around to get everything to fit properly, had to match drill the tail wheel weldment to the already drilled holes that attach the vertical stab, cut out a slot in the bottom skin and both F614s so the tail wheel can exit the aircraft.
