Brief Description:  Elevator finishing/Brake covers

Had a full week off for family/work stuff. Countdown really ticking for my last week of work before retirement. My first day of freedom is supposed to be 01/04/22. It may be a joke, but I have it in writing.

SWMBO amazed me today by indicating she thought the P-51 Mustang was a pretty aeroplane and we should get one. I have not told her the price tag for such a machine, and the local alternatives I proposed did not result in aircraft ownership. Maybe I'll have to wait for a T-51 to come up...

Finish wet sanded elevators with 400g, and am happy with the results. Would like to get some high-build primer on them and assess the results, (and the balance), but rattle cans do not seem to be available locally. Hmmmmm.

Jacked up the port side, pulled the wheel off and prep sanded the lower gear leg. Found and marked a low spot above the brake line cutout.

Cannot get the cover to sit right, and realise it is being interfered with by the brake line. The brake line is about 1.5" short. Grrrrrrr. Need a new brakeline. I detach the brakeline up top to allow more slack and the cover sits better, but the back attachment hole is NQR. I also note the attachment on the gear leg protrudes a bit and will need fairing on the brake cover.

Hot glued a plastic packer over the inside of the hole and filled the existing hole with JW weld. When that was firming up put about 4 x UND over the top, tapered, with 1 x 4oz over the top.
