Brief Description:  Engine mount

Dear reader, it is time to tell a sad tale. I had arranged with another builder to source a pair of dynafocal rings, (check), make a jig, (check), and deliver to an experienced welder for fabrication of two mounts, (check). 18 months later I made another of my anguished pleas for an update on progress, hindered by COVID lockdowns, travel restrictions, household restrictions, wierd shifts at work and concentration on other things, including a devastating family bereavement, and support of the surviving parties. On this latest plea the welder finally admitted he had done a couple of test pieces, and was not satisfied with the outcome. In short, he had lost his welding mojo, and did not want to proceed. He was most apologetic, and I certainly don't blame him. I understand the concept of personal minimums and pride in a project. Entirely forgiven.

The other builder reccomended an experienced local welder, and I approached him. Along with the previously mentioned COVID blether, this guy was seemingly keen, but any time I actually wanted to meet with him, or take the jig over he was just on the point of going to Wangaratta for a holiday, or another excuse, and, after supplying another name just ghosted me and will no longer answer the phone or messages. The name he supplied would not answer the phone or answer messages either. F&cking Cvnts!

I have another name, but he is apparently a really busy man, and he is in Latrobe Valley. I decided to do some of the legwork myself. Research indicates the hardest bit is cutting and notching the tubes, so I bought some mild steel tube of the right spec and started cutting to see what happens. What happens is you end up with tubes that are too short and still the wrong shape. Any adjustment I make increases any existing gaps. Any attempt to transfer the shape to a fresh tube usually ends in a 180 degree error in placement and a tube that is even shorter.

I rough cut the tubes with a thin blade on a grinder, and profile with a flappy grinding disc on another grinder. Thi
