Made up two 1/4" Hoop pine marine ply plugs for the end of the Rudder return spring tubes with coping saw and lathe, turning the first two plies so they fit in the end of the tube. Destroyed one trying to fit the pre-made hooks, so made another plug and left the free end of the hook straight, passed it through a hole in the center of the plug, then formed another hook on the backside. Worked eventually, but managed to stuff my already dickey bolt cutters on the stiff wire, and one cheap pair of needle nose pliers.
