Brief Description:  Assembling Elevators

Bought some proper spanners and dissassembled the elevators. Bolt is not obstructed, just the hinge pins holes were obstructed by swath, buckets of it. It occurs to me it was quite naive thinking I could just do what the plans literally say, and realise now it is probably better practice to drill and ream, then disassemble, debur and clean up the mess before bolting it all together. I now see at least one other builder, (Keith Dove), reports the same experience.

Found a magnificent resource for reading up on other's projects, nicely organised:

Pins are still a very tight fit through the offsets, maybe because the ends look a bit scratched and daggy now. Sanded them smooth and polished until they install easily.

Reassembled all.

Superglued AN960-416L washers either side of each NC-3 and attempted to fit to the torque tubes/offsets, but the hinge pin wouldn't go through AGAIN. Reamed out the NC-3 to 3/16" which made them fit, at the cost of having one washer disappear. Glued on another.

Had a brainwave, and marked the outboard point of each hinge pin, so that when the mark is flush against NC-6 the tip is well through the inboard NC-3.
