Brief Description:  Fitting Elevator cores to Torque Tubes

Check H & I elevator checking templates against M-17, make some very minor adjustments. Apply 2 plies of masking tape to the templates to replicate 0.020" fibreglass to come and recheck cores. They are too big! Check cores again against hot wire template, they match perfectly. Then notice the Torque Tube doesn't fit through the hole in the template. Measure the hole and it is only 0.925" to fit the 1.0" tube. WTF is going on???

It comes like a jolt from a dodgy power cord, the hot wire is supposed to burn further into the cores than I let it. I cut and threw away lots of Elevator cores BECAUSE they had burnt in and ended up smaller than the templates, LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. I feel like a complete patsy. The cores I have are ALL too big, even the one I was worrying about keeping coz it was a bit small will need to be sanded back to use. FAAAAARRRRRKKKKK!

Once I picked up the tools I had thrown around the shed started sanding ALL the cores to match the templates. I sanded the top surface until it matched the template, then flat sanded the bottom to match. Finally made the hole bigger with sandpaper wrapped around a bit of conduit.

Finished STBD cores, cleaned the Torque Tube and micro'd them together.

Mostly sanded PORT cores.

Went and drank some beer.
