Brief Description:  Lower cowling trimming and flanges preparation

Over the last week fiddled with the lower cowling in an attempt to make it match the upper and the wing. The cowling trailing edges have been trimmed a bit aggressively. Make a template based on the most pleasing shape that can be achieved on both sides, then trim both sides and both cowling halves to match. All will need a little addition at the wing root to achieve a pleasing shape.

Note that the less than plans addition of reinforcement to the rear of the spar/strake cowling flange has made installation difficult. Cut away the offending portion, and trim the wing flanges a bit too. Will fix later when I'm happy with the bottom cowl.

Cover the flange faces with a few thicknesses of cloth tape topped with packing tape, prep sand where required and refit lower cowling with cleco. Fix lower cowling in position with hot glue blocks and the odd mixing stick, then remove top cowling.

Play with cooling concepts. I am quite keen on cooling plenums, but done in the Jabiru fashion, and with the ducts for cooling exhaust, not the usual intakes. Might work. It is in the Jabiru installation manual to do it this way. Things to think about: Need to figure out how to seal the pushrod tubes, the plug wires, the exhaust surrounds and the cowling center around the prop extension. Need to adapt the plans baffling. Hmmmmm.
