Brief Description: Engine mount
|
|
Over the last week or so continue efforts to achieve the ube notching for the engine mount with mild steel tubing.

Watched a couple of videos on how to go about it, and find references to coping calculators. I find one at the link above. You input the sizes of the tubing, the angle and any offset, (which I understand is applicable to the tube that goes on the bottom of the lower cup). I found the easiest way to measure the angle was to fold a bit of paper to match the required angle, then measure with a protractor.
This generates a pdf which I printed, then wrapped each around a bit of tubing, I then pull this off and telescope it and rotate the two pieces until the paper template fits in the desire location, making adjustments with small pointy scissors. I then tape the two bits together, replace it on a tube, mark the cut, then cut with a thin wheel and trim with a flappy disc on two grinders. With a lot of false starts and practice I can reliably generate the right tube for each job.
The hardest is the bottom cross tube with the bend in it. I made a form to bend the tube over, and can generate a usable tube after 1/2 a dozen fails. All recyclable.
I attached each tube to the form with hot glue to accurately cut the next, and spend some time thinking about which order to make and weld the tubes.
