Brief Description: Brake fairings
Over the last week or so determined that the part produced from my form was not wide enough to cover the brake rotor, so built it up a bit with filler, then got excited and decided to Cory Bird finish it, before using it as a form for the next part. I smeared it with filler, sanded to profile with 40g, applied 3 wipe coats of West epoxy, then block sanded 240/360/1200g. By this point I had sanded through the epoxy layer in a few places, so without much optimism applied 3 coats of acrylic surfacer. I fixed a couple of low spots with glazing putty, sanded to 400g and reprimed, then applied 3 coats of white acrylic paint.
I was quite proud of the result. If the whole plane looks like it at the finish I reckon I'll be happy. There were a couple of flat spots the disclosing coat did not show, and a couple of pinholes. Hmmmm.
