Brief Description:  Canopy frame outer skin layup

New resin MGS L285 batch 0233.

2 x BID at 45 degrees. 1st layer from one piece of COLAN BID, with a tiny extra bit in the corner, and the 2nd from 3 bits, the last remaining on the roll. Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster for that, the COLAN is a bitch to work with, it doesn't drape well, doesn't wet out well and unravells easily at the edge. Spend the extra for getting the good stuff from Aircraft Spruce/Wicks. I now only have scraps left. [Timewarp July: Trying to use some scraps just hi-lighted how bad it is, so I binned the lot, including the tapes I cut. Now getting a bit short of BID, but I don't have much left to use it for].

Applied 1 x CF BID over the last 600-odd mm over the aft part of the canopy frame, overlapping onto the turtleback, clear of the canopy flange. 1 x CF BID for about 400mm radius of the hinge points. Then 1 x CF BID overall, in two pieces, overlapping 1" on the centerline, and extending over the flange. All plies at 45 degrees The CF BID moulds to the contours far better than I had expected. It pushes into position and just stays that way. Really nice. Wets out really well too, but it is difficult to tell how wet it is. You can overload it with resin, and it never looks shiny. Thankfully glass plies are to come.

2 x UND fore and aft, each using one bit of COLAN UND, which is far nicer than the COLAN BID, just a little harder to wet out than the RAF.

862g resin used

All plies overlap the turtleback, starting 3" aft of the filler piece, and each 1/2" shorter, and just peel plied this overlap. All but one CF BID ply overlap the canopy flange. All plies wet out with a mini roller.
