Brief Description: Canopy frame internal layup
|
|
Filled the flox corner around the edge.
Applied a slurry to the mostly hard-shelled foam. (Not sure when I did this, it isn't in my rough log). 2 x BID at 45 degrees overall. Needed more bits, but the RAF BID is much nicer to work with. Used a 1" overlap. Only this BID layer overlapped the top skin, all other edge plies stopped at the edge of the flox corner. Forward, all plies are glass-to-glass with the outer skin.
As for the exterior, applied bits of 1 x CF BID on the aft frame and around the hinge points, not on the canopy flange, exceptthe last 6" or so, then 1 x CF BID overall, including the flange.
2 x UND oriented fore/aft over all. Only one was COLAN and full width, the next was RAF, with a butt joint on the centerline. Peel plied joins.
Had to clamp a taped block over the safety catch notch to get it to lay down, and again for the glass-to-glass join on the leading edge. The CF BID was very nicely behaved, not so the UND.
The first ply goes right back to the turtleback bulkhead, each subsequent is 1/2" shorter. Joins and edges peel plied. 910g resin used.
