Brief Description:  Strake top skin

New batch of hardener H287 slow 8 0193

Pulled apart my fibreglass cutting/transporting tripod thingie, and enlarged it to carry the 50" wide Colan UND/BID rolls, and fitted the UND for the following works.

Block sanded starboard strake top initial fill in the mid-rib gap, and backfilled with a slather of dry micro, screed level. Result rather crappy looking with huge gaps. Maybe the micro is a bit dry for the thin layer. Leave it anyway, time for a layup!

Prepped port strake top, ran a flox fillet along the fuselage seam and filled any gaps to the spar with flox. Micro'd remaining foam and applied the plans layup schedule. 1 x UND parallel to the leading edge, 1 x UND parallel to the ribs, 1 x 5" wide UND tape at the tip, 1 x UND perpendicular to the leading edge, between the fuselage and R/B33 with an inch or two overlap. All plies overlap the fuselage by 1", the spar by 4", Each ply 1" at the leading edge, down to the midpoint of the OD rib.

I cut the plies inside the fuel cap recess to make it lie down better, (which would be removed anyhow, this was a lesson of my test piece), and put 1 x BID over the top, with about 3/4" overlap. I wrapped the form I had made with shrinkwrap film, inserted into the fuel cap recess, peel ply overall and weight the forms.

1.06kg resin expended
