Brief Description:  Strake lower skin

Research yesterdays issues and find no reference in the archive. There are some similar references to the canard, but maybe I'm not looking on the right forum. Dully read the plans one more time and am astounded to discover I had done it the right way after all. Read the plans stupid!

Trim the layup, and it looks just lovely!

Spend a bit of time playing with the prefab blisters I bought at a garage sale. I had already cut the starboard one down the middle, and cut sideways to the flange in two places so it would follow the curve of the fuselage. I cleco it in place, put electrical tape across the join, then hot glued some aluminium flashing strips across the gap so it will hold its shape.

I cleco'd the port one to the strake skin, then used somebody elses idea and wedged some blue wing foam into the gap with the fuselage, secured with hot glue.

I pulled both blisters off and applied 2 x BID tape over the join/foam flange, overlapping 1" and peel plied.

I was tired last night and could not be bothered cleaning the 4" roller cover, I just pulled it off the handle and left it. I wasn't even rollered out, as I put the peel ply on pretty wet. I pulled a fresh one out and weighed them both. I had always considered the roller a bit wasteful of resin, but the used one only weighed 15g more than the fresh one, 0.75% of the resin used. I probably got more than that on my trakky daks. Thanks for the tip Michael Wood!

I did discover a hint whilst researching the above issues, instead of just a flat end to the transition piece have an end rib like the wing root. I dug out the 2" H45 I will use vice the plans urethane florist foam and start hacking it out, intending to use blue wing foam for the last 1", which I will dig out to form the rib. Decide half way through it will just be easier after the top skin is on, and the plane is sitting on the wheels and D thingies, and the foam is micro's on, so abandon this task.
