Brief Description:  Canopy planning

Have probably spent too much time thinking about this, but have no read the Chapter in detail, both the Cozy IV, and Uli Wolter's Cozy Classic, (with the front hinged canopy, hereafter referred to as FHC) and stipulate the following:

#1 I like the CC larger canopy, full width to the longerons

#2 I don't have the lofts for the CC multitude of jigs, so will go with the IV's 5.

#3 It seems odd to embed 1/4" of 2024 in the flange, just to bold C8 to. I could embed C8 in the TB side, and place the side in the right place for the latch to engage it. This means the flange has to turn outboard, as per the IV.

#4 I have seen one flying IV with FHC that has only two latches on the starboard side. So will mine. On both sides. Extra clamping will come from gas locking struts as well.

#5 Texas canopy and side windows. Bonded with Sikaflex. Make forward fuselage. Sit canopy on it. Make a forward flange. Might work, but this is all much later. I can still do the actual main canopy as per IV plans, whatever else I do.

#6 Big boy mods. Fwd edge 1.7" up. Think further about the cutline, due seatback 1" aft. LE needs to be in plans location, TB-1 aft 1", and so also the cutline.

#7 Note the firewall is a pretty good match for the cowling, so match the aft jig to the firewall, quite a bit larger than the plans jig.

Glue bits of wood along what seems a nice loft line from the Cowling to the forward jig. In a fit of commitment, cut off the "aethetic pieces" and flox the upper firewall on, clamped with a couple of hot glued bits of wood. Discover in the process that the lower firewall is more vertical than I expected, if you discount the buildup of various reinforcing plies around the edges.
