Brief Description:  Mounting Elevators on Canard

Wedged and bondo'd Canard upside down on table, and bondo on one L jig, as per Fig.17. Immediately notice that, unlike the way Fig. 17 indicates, I will not be able to get the Elevators under the L jig. I pop off the jig and consider. I check the L jig against M-18 and it looks fine.

I prop the Elevators in approximate position on the Canard and try the L jig on top. I am staggered to see I will need a smidgen of sanding to achieve the jig positions, with NO GAP BETWEEN the Elevators and Canard. Plans say 0.2" is required! WTF have I done this time???

I dig out the Elevator travel jig G and offer it up to one end and am staggered again to discover the L jig props the Elevator at 15 degrees TE up! Then it occurs to me that there shouldn't be a gap at 15 degrees up. Maybe there is some wierd happenstance that would let me mount my dodgy Elevators on my crippled Canard in some half-assed fashion, (as I did with my Canard leading edge cores), that would be flyable???

I prop the elevators in accordance with the L jig, grasp the hinge and rotate the Elevators until the bottoms roughly line up with the bottom of the canard, as shown in Fig.18. There is a fine, healthy 0.2" gap between the Elevator and the Canard!!! A couple of bits need sanding, but I was expecting to do so. Still don't know what is happening, so go back to the plans and read it all again. No, nothing.

Notice at this point my carefully installed CS-11 will interfere with rotating the inboard NC-3 out of the way when routing out the foam. Remove.

I'll continue this rant on another entry, coz I've run out of characters in this one
