Brief Description: Testing the rivet gun.
|
|
I borrowed a 4x rivet gun from Bo in my EAA Chapter (297), WOW! this thing makes me look like I know what I am doing. I made some REALLY hasty holes and countersinks to test the gun and it is truly amazing. The bolt method was not bad, but this is NICE!
I drilled 9 holes all together. 3 for countersunk rivets on bare angle aluminum, 3 for regular head rivets on bare angle aluminum, then 3 for securing a small piece of scrap to the angle aluminum. I did 3 variations of holes. If you look at picture 1, I will list from top to bottom what I did.
Top - Dimpled skin, oversized countersink hole underneath, on the angle aluminum.
Middle - UN-dimpled skin, normal size countersink hole underneath, on the angle aluminum.
Bottom - Dimpled skin, regular countersink hole underneath, on the angle aluminum.
The other 2 picturs show the result of the test on top, and bottom. I was VERY happy with the results. They all ended up looking about the same so that goes to show there is some margin for error. I will try my best to use the "bottom" method.
