Brief Description:  Trouble getting my first start

After many issues with my timing (all centered around the magneto) I believe I am finally dead on! I had issues at first with the magneto sping tension on the drive tangs being too low and that was throwing the firing delay off. I fixed that and it still wouldn't start so I started looking for other causes like the carb. That all checked out good. I went back through the timing procedure and verified I had spark and I did so I put it all back together and still nothing. At this point my battery was feeling the strain so I let it be and gave it a rest for a day and enjoyed thanksgiving. I pondered many things and came back to it with a fresh mind today and rigged up the contraption in the picture. I then rotated the prop through and watched for when the spark for #1 was occuring. Turns out it was firing on the beggining of the intake stroke. I removed the mag and clicked it by hand until the #1 fired. I then rotated the engine so that I was just beyond the point where it should fire on the #1 cylinder. I remouned the mag and retimed it to the proper stroke. I am pretty confident it will fire tomorrow right away. I didnt want to go through setting up the whole rig to try today.
