Brief Description:  control stick boot and fairings

I ended up making a pretty darn good boot template and boot using this method that I just kind of thought up and it worked and I think it came out great. The link below shows the end result.

The top is cinched with a zip tie and the bottom has flaps that are secured with velcro to the seat pan. I measured the distance I needed for each side, found the longest length "up" that was needed for each stick deflection, and the circumference of the top of the stick. Divided the circumference by 4 (that's how many sides I had), and used a bit of geometry to get it all worked out. I basically started with a perpendicular center line and a flat base. since I had to go 8" across and 13" up I marked the base and perpendicular line accordingly then centered my circumference cut at the top of that segment at the 13" mark. Since the circumference was 3.5" I added an extra inch for the seam giving me 4.5", or (4) 1 1/8" sections, I then knew my base line was going to be 8", my vertical line was going to be 13" and my top line would be 1 1/8" all centered on the vertical line.

I then connected the ends of my flat (parallel) lines and moved on to my left and right sides of the boot and I needed them 9" long and 9" up so I used three rulers to find the common points where all the rulers lined up at their respective measurements which where 1 1/8" for the top circumference, 9" for the side, and 9" for the base. Once all those lines met each other at the proper dimension, I drew another line. I did this for the final section as well but split it in half since this was in the front of the stick where the seam is.

I also added a 2" flap to the bottom of each "base" line which was nothing more than a rectangle as long as the side I was making and 2" wide. It sounds harder than it is.

The 3rd picture shows my proof of concept mock up which should give an idea of what I mean. It was not my actual template but very close. I modified the concept template to have larger bottom flaps and a 1/2 tab of material on each side of the
