Brief Description:  Mod: Extend Vert Stab Forward Spar Channel

To line up the Vertical Stabilizer frame to match the pre-drilled pilot holes in the skin, the Forward Spar turned out to be about 1/4" too short. This caused the Tip Rib to slant downward and the rivet holes ended up going into the bend.

To correct this, I ordered a new tip rib from Sonex, trimmed off the top flange from the Forward Spar, and made up a new flange and a 2 1/2" extension from scrap .025" 6061-T6 sheet. The flange is 1/2" deep, attached to the tip rib with 3 rivets. The body of the extension is attached with 6 rivets in 2 rows 1" apart to the Forward Spar.

This mod was approved by Kerry Fores at Sonex via reply to an email I sent him 12/5/08. Also OK'd by Jeff Paris, EAA Tech Counselor during 1/11/09 inspection.
