Brief Description:  Decisions Made: Center Controls & Standard Seat He

Had planned to finish up the hinges today, but realized I need to make a couple of decisions now before making more parts based on the standard plans. I ended up studying the plans for 2 hours to be sure I wouldn't be wasting materials that would have to be remade later.

Lowered Seat Option?

I'm 5' 8" and my wife is 5" 3". I tried the "Escape Pod" at the Sonex factory, which has the lowered seat, and found it too deep for me without the additional thick bolster that is available. My wife and I also sat in a standard seat tri-gear Sonex near our home. That was just right for me and still a little low for my spouse. I've finally concluded we're building this for ourselves primarily and not for later sale or taller passengers. I've talked to another builder who is 5' 10" and would not do the lowered seat again for himself. So that's it - Standard Seat.

Dual Stick Center Controls Option (Sport Trainer):

I am definitely going this route. My wife would like to be able to land the plane from the right seat, and most of my likely passengers will be flying buddies and relatives. I've talked to two other builders with the flap and brake handles in the middle and they say it does not cause any discomfort and you gain a slight bit of space on the left.
