Brief Description: Riveting problems and Ooops Rivets
This was 8/6 through 8/9. Really had a rough time with the forward most rivet on the HS-707. I could not get the skin to lie flat against the rib flange and ended up using a clamp on the outside of the skin to "squeeze" the skin into the flange before I riveted. I really screwed it up and had to drill it out twice. Found that the rivet would go in on a slant and when I hit it with the gun it would kick sideways and look like garbage. I sent a picture to Vans and asked about it. They said it was not ideal but I would probably mess it up is I drilled it out. These events keep me up at night literally. I opted to up size the hole and try the oops rivet. I drilled out the rivet Sllllooowwwly and had my wife come down with ear protection. She was able to put some pressure on the HS-707 for me to get the rivet straight. I finally got this rivet set and set good. Glad that one is done for sure. Moving on!!!
I also built a HS Wing Cradle. Not done with it yet. Needs some additional work.
