Brief Description:  Wing Planform and Structure

The decision has been made that aircraft will be using a wing derived from the two-seat Vision aircraft with planform and airfoil revised to suit this aircrafts mission. While I am currently forced to follow the stringent (and in places unreasonable) regulations for LSA aircraft I am still holding some hope for the pending FAA regulation changes to allow for a more reasonable wing area. To that end I have designed a wing with what I call Big Tips which features an extension of the wing spar to support nearly four feet of additional wing. If the regs ever provide for some relief I can remove the existing tip sections and replace it with a more reasonably sized tip that is carved from foam. Note that while design includes flaps the FAA does not allow their use for meeting stall speed requirements. The horizontal tail is also boosted in size to meet stability requirements of the large wing area.

1) The wing in the LSA compliant form

2) The wing in the desired, non LSA (currently) form

3) As a side interest I have compared the current aircraft sizing and planform against my last project, a BD-5G aircraft. While the wing span is essentially the same all other aspects of the design are quite different.
