Brief Description: Fuel Injection System Components
1) I went ahead and bolted the adapter and elbow to the intake manifold in preparation to attaching it to the engine so I can get some measurements for the FMU mounting. I do not have the gasket yet for the adapter to manifold juncture and the inside of the manifold needs some cleanup of the welded area so it will be coming apart again later. I went and attached the Alternate Air splitter to the inlet of the FMU so I can get an idea of the fit for when it is attached to the engine oil pan. The splitter is designed to be directly attached to the FMU and the fit is fairly tight. If you look at the open end of the splitter you can just see the flapper door that controls the supply source. The control arm can be moved to any desired orientation as well as either side so there is a lot of flexibility in setting up the control cable. I plan to use a three lever power quadrant in the cockpit and the 3rd lever will be for Alternate Air selection, forward for ram air, aft for filtered air. On the FMU you can see the throttle control on the near side but the actual lever can go on either side in any orientation desired. The mixture control is on the far side and has to stay on that side but again the orientation is at the discretion of the installer.
As shown the FMU is too far aft and a spacer tube will be built with mounting flanges on each end to effect that. The tube will be Carbon Fiber with Fiberglass end plates. If you remember basic chemistry Steel and Carbon do not get along together so the endplates need to be nonreactive. Incidentally the Aerospace industry is using a lot of Titanium now for fasteners and reinforcements for compatibility with the CF structures that are becoming so common.
2) These are the pump and filtering components that go on the firewall. The golden cylinder at the bottom center is the 100 micron fuel filter that came with the FI system. Before that component will be an Andair gasocolator which also has a 70 micron filter element but I was not confident that it would be as through as
