Brief Description:  Fuselage Systems Mockup - Part 1

Given that the Forward Fuselage along with Fuselage mounted Main Landing Gear and Side Stick Flight Controls represent significant changes from the prototype and plans/kit I feel that some additional time should be spent making sure that everything will fit without interference before I commit to building the actual fuselage. Now the forward fuselage is really just a simple 3 sided box that is rounded at the corners so I decided that I would nmake a mockup using common plywood and solid wood available at the local Home Improvement store. With that decision madeI have laid out the basic design and decided on the type and thickness of materials to be used. With this structure I can install most of the flight controls as well as almost all of the Electrical system, Secondary Flight Controls (Flaps, Spd Brk) and the Avionics (just foam mockups for sizing). In fact there can be so much work done in the mockup that I can take the wiring harneses built in it and transfer it directly to the real fuselage when the time comes. A big benifit that I see is that I know where all the cutouts, reinforcements and hard points need to be so they can be worked into the fiselage during construction and hopefully eliminate any rework. The bill of materials is in hand now and just waiting for me to find the time (and good weather) to stop by Lowes or HD and purchase the materials. I have already bought a couple of low quality but adaquate wood working tools from HF (Columbus Day sale) to do the fabrication work. I actually have good quality tools already but they are still buried away in the main storage unit so rather than wait until I can get to them I will make do with the HF imports. They should last at least long enough to do what I need for the mockup and then go on the scrap pile.
