Installing T14-01 x 2 Horizontal Tail Surface Tips. - I have previously prepared the tips for installation by cutting out the area for proper spacing to the elevators. - Tape 4 - 90 degree tabs to each tip. This will set the correct insertion depth when installing the tips to the horizontial stabilizers. - Insert and cleco 4 temporary shims under the left and right horizontal stabilizers skins, this will create the necessary space for the fiberglass tips. - Cleco a temporary 1" wide strip to the left and right horizontal stabilizer tip ribs, which extends to the trailing edge of the elevators. A line drawn down the middle of this strip is used for setting the proper elevator position. - Clamp the horizontal stabilizer assembly to the work bench to keep things in alignment when installing the fiberglass tips. - Clamp wood blocks under the left and right elevators, aligning the elevator trailing edges with the center line of the tip ribs. - Insert the left and right fiberglass tips, until the metal tabs are aligned with the horizontal stabilizers. - Tweek alignment, drill #40 and cleco. I have read numerous accounts on internet forums about how difficult it is to install these fiberglass tips. Using this method results in perfectly aligned tips. Time consuming? Yes, it took 3 hours to set up, but once that was done it only took 45 minutes to drill #40 and cleco them in place.
