Brief Description: Completed nose wheel strut. Riveted main mount gui
These hours include 1.7 of mine on 8/22 and 1.7 each of Carole and I on 8/23.
The gap from 8/11 to 8/22 was when we flew to Iowa to attend the Wilson reunion.
As stated in last entry, the nose wheel strut was ready for final assembly. This was done following the photo guides. Since the bearing had a pre-drilled hole horizontally and that ended in the aluminum support, a guide had to be cut out of scrap aluminum to position the hole in the aluminum to match the hole in the bearing. This worked fine.
The strut is barely in the upper bearing but will extend further when the weight of the engine is put on the nose wheel. It all seems to work fine. Note that the lower bearing has a top slope to it which tends to center the nosewheel. Off center the side tubes ride up on the bearing.
The main mount supports, as shown, were bolted and tightened and all rivets in that area were installed getting ready to put on the main mount strut.
