Brief Description:  Lower engine mount. Gear strut fittings.

This includes 5.6 hours on 7/6/09.
This includes 3.7 hours by Carole.

Began some of the attachments to the fuselage as spelled out in the photo guides. This includes preparing and attaching the upper engine mounts, which went on without complication. Also the lower engine mounts which took a little thinking since there is nothing to clamp to while drilling. I did the vertical (forward) end first to hold it with a small clico, knowing that a much bigger hole will replace that little hole when the engine is attached.

As shown in figure 2, I attach the rear control bearing holder with A5 rivet/clicos. I checked that A5 is appropriate with Zenith yesterday (Caleb). Installing the right side gear strut fitting took several hours. The metal is a hard steel and it eats up drill bits. Also the existing holes are on the inside of the plane and the fitting is on the outside. I held the fitting in place by building up supports from the floor to put pressure on it. It fit rather snug so that helped. Some of the already drilled holes on the inside are hard to get at so some were drilled from the outside with careful measurements.

The right hand gear strut fitting is drilled for both bolts (with 6 temporarily holding it on) and rivets held with clicos where needed.
